I pondered that for a moment and then came to a conclusion:
Similar to how a long-exposure photo produces light streams from passing headlights or star movement, I believe this is supposed to represent something similar. As if a photographer took a long-exposure of spaceships landing in the dock of the ship, further emphasizing the fact that this is a distribution ship, constantly sending ships this way and that.
I love the shape of the ship - functional. It reminds me of the recent Capital Ship battle video from Eliteangerous (and I loved them too). I think the only issue I have with it (minor quibble) as I get no sense of scale - one or two smaller ships at the end of those engine trails might have given it a more epic scale.
Very well done, I really like your colour composition and atmosphere it creates,. The orange lights are a fine constrast to the colder environment around it and leads the eye. The mechanical 'thorn' (I'm unsure how to call this thing) at the upper has a bit too soft edges in contrast to the rest of the ship design in my opinion though, but the rest looks gorgeous. I prefer this colour scheme to your choices in 'Nothing to lose', I find it easier to see whats important because of the colour variations. Keep it up!
